SPRINGHILL DADS v MAPLES SPORT
by Scoop

. . .Maples aren't the side they were and have been having some indifferent results of late - a full Dads side should have a great chance of turning them over.
Unfortunately, Golden boots has to baby sit and Jason Furness is struggling with a knee injury. However, more than able substitutes were grafted in, Jack Frost and Martin Kingsbury answering the call.

SPRINGHILL DADS
Rob Thorpe
Tim Hart - Tony Pascoe - Brian Medway - John Lynch
Dave Hedges - Martin Kingsbry - John Frisby - Andy Simpson
Jack Frost - John Elms
Sub; Jason Furness, Mal Barton

. . .The Dads started the game full of enthusiasm and it wasn't long before Andy was given an opportunity but his shot was saved. The Dads were putting it together and Jack, Andy, John Elms & Martin were linking well in mid-field. The points are in the bag!
. . .Maples managed some possession and broke into the Dads half. But, there was no way passed Tony who flattened a particulary dangerous forward and with that angelic look on his face (butter wouldn't melt in his mouth'.
. . .Tony brought the ball away, played a 1 - 2 with John Frisby John burst into the box but his shot was saved. In their efforts to clear the ball a defender's arm made contact with the ball. Dave Hedges calls for and wins the free kick - Daves shot was saved.
. . .The Dads were all lining up for shots, now but none troubled keeper. From a break-out Brian's talents were called on. He beat the big forward and won the ball - played it up to John Frisby whose wicked shot flashed right of the post. Then Jack was through, his lay-off to the right of the box put Dave away, his shot was over.
. . .Maples gathered themselves and put some play together. A runner was through, the Dads defence were still dreaming of getting on the score sheet up the other end. Robbie came out to narrow the angle, the runner shot, Robbie spilled his effort and hastilly cleared away. Robbie's crap clearance went straight to a Maples player but luckily, his shot was a mile off target.
. . .Martin cut-out a loose ball in middle and played it out to Dave who put Jack through to shot over. Maples managed to get a shot off but it was wide.
The Dads got it back together. John Frisby linked with Jack, John Elms was in, he turned and shot . . . Oooh, blocked. John Lynch now in on the act, getting it together with Tony & Martin to put John Elms away to shoot wide with an open goal beckonning.
. . .Then, at last, the break through. ANDY SIMPSON was put through and makes no mistake drilling his shot low into the bottom corner - vigorous appeals for off-side were pointedly ignored.
. . .Good old Dads - the Maples winger darts through with the defence fast asleep, still re-living Andy's goal. They failed to close down the player whose shot beats Robbie. Good old Maples, as the Dads were re-spotting the ball for the kick-off, bemoaning their luck - Maples were still moaning about the Dads off side(?) goal
Some more good build up play from the Dads. Jack, John Frisby and Martin combine for Martin to shoot over. Then a John Elms free kick from hand ball puts Dave in and goes close.
. . .Maples played the ball through on the right, shadowed by John Lynch. The winger crossed but the forward shot wide under pressure from Brian. Then the winger ran through again. This time Martin lost the struggle, he was unable to keep up, the wingers lofted shot dropped in behind Robbie for Maples to go infront.

HALF TIME
SPRINGHILL DADS 1 - 2 MAPLES SPORT

. . .From the kick-off the play was a bit scruffy - Maples picked up the impetus and the winger nipped through to see his shot from no angle go wide. Another ball was played through for the left winger, Robbie was out to clear up. John Lynch cleared dangerous ball played behind him with the winger snapping at his heals.
. . .The Dads weathered the storm and John Frisby was fouled making his way into the Maples area. Tim's free-kick into the box was met by Tony whose shot was blocked followed by some frantic defending.
. . .A Maples player was injured during this time and the keeper played the ball into touch so the player could get attention.
. . .The Dads played the throw-in to the keeper. He pumped the ball up field. It was put through with Brian chasing after it. He had to clear up - Robbie was too slow off his line.
. . .Play broke down and JACK FROST broke into the Maples area and he shot. The keeper managed to get his hand to it but the power of the shot took it into the net.
A through ball but Robbie chickened out and cleared behind - the corner was put wide. Another through ball and Tim was forced back pass, Robbie scuffed his shot to a Maples player who shot wide.
. . .Dads were all at sea, Robbie was floundering - struggling to clear his lines. Then Tony made a brilliant cross field pass to Brian and John Elms who passed to Dave & Andy in box but the chance fizzled out.
. . .Robbie collected the ball at the edge of his area and pumped it up field - in mid-field a Maples player, on own with no challenge drilled it straight in - Robbie was forced to make a blinding one handed save.
From a Robbies clearance a shot was blocked and Jack put the loose ball wide with empty goal at his mercy.
. . .End to end stuff now and Tim was chasing a through ball - Tim touched ball - Robbie picked it up - indirect free kick - the big forward stepped up with the Dads making themselves as big as they could, his shot went over.
The ball was played down the left and John Frisby, with no-one near him went crashing to the ground, managed to fouled himself - it was a sorry sight, 'I've lost something - my dignity!'
. . .From the sublime to the rediculous, now John Elms called Jack greedy!!! when he shot wide.
. . .Some more great play and Jack put through to John Frisby running in, his shot was blocked on the line - the corner went behind.
. . .Andy through on goal when big defender picked him up and body slammed him to the canvas before pinning his shoulders for the fall.
. . .MARTIN KINGSBURY stepped up to fire the penalty into the bottom left corner. For some reason Martin was made to retake it but made no mistake putting it high and to the right. No problem.
. . .Just seconds to go now all the dads have to do is keep their shape, everyone behind the ball and the points are in the bag. Maples force a corner and were preparing to take it very quickly. All Dads were called back defend the corner and as the Dads were piling into the area the corner was fired, Robbie came but missed the cross. But DAVE HEDGES didn't, he met the ball perfectly to deflect it into the net with Robbie stranded.
. . .Time!
